Our first estate
vintage featuring Sangiovese, this is our finest wine produced to date.
The wine is a seamless combination of
ripe, rich textures and finesse . . . firm but not bitter or tannic.
Its luxurious nose and deep garnet color demands a sip.
The wine is fruit forward and ripe, with
notes of black cherry, red currants and violet. A hint of black pepper
and subtle new oak on the nose add to the complexity.
Retriever's smoothness makes it extremely
drinkable now, but will be at its peak in 2009.
We planted this low-yielding Tuscan
Sangiovese clone in 2004. A judicious crop reduction during the summer
of 2006 has paid dividends. Each vine was cropped to just 6 pounds of
fruit.
80% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot, 5% Cabernet
Franc.
